A vector of everyone's favourite pink party planner! Any criticisms or tips welcomed~ For realsies, I promise I don't bite c: Do you have any suggestions for how to vector shading/highlighting things in Inkscape? Is anything off about the placement/bending of the limbs?

Depending on how detailed you want the shading to be, the most basic way to "make" a shaded object is to make a black object that contours with the body part that you want shaded. Add transparency; more or less depending on how much contrast you want the shadow to have against the subject. Add a gradient that gets darker as it gets further from the light source, though you don't have to.

When shading/highlighting, always make sure to convey a consistent light source. If you want to show that the light source is coming from the top left, make any bend/protrusion/angle that blocks the light source create a shadow moving to the bottom right.

Hope that helps :)

Thank you very much for the help! I'm gonna go play around with this a bit and see if I can get some actual shading to look good c:

No problem!

Also, her right leg seems just a tad high, though that's probably because her torso seems to bulge a bit near the neck, which is a stylistic choice.

And fixed on the shading! I think.

And I think I know what you mean with the leg, I'll try pulling it back next time and see if I like the way it looks~ Still, thank you again~

You're most certainly welcome :)

It looks like you've got the basic idea down, though if you want to learn more, I'd send a note to the admins at :iconmlp-vectorclub: asking for help regarding shading. Quite a few of them are masters at it, so you'll probably learn a lot more from them than I could ever teach you.
